I don’t know about you but I’m getting more sales and marketing email spam than ever! So much for GDPR as very little of what I receive was ever requested.

I also wonder who ‘invented’ or trains the follow up email that says “We did not receive any response from your end. Please let us know if you are interested in our services and want to discuss further.” BOLD was used as shown. I’ll tell you why you didn’t hear from me, I’m NOT INTERESTED! And yes, I’m now using BOLD on purpose too!

What’s worse is that had the sender done even 30 seconds of research into my business they would have realised that I’m a competitor!

Lazy, ignorant and rude is how I describe these sales approaches. Stop wasting my time, I value my time but you clearly don’t, you don’t even value your own time. If you did you would be working on more effective approaches. I’ve got an idea, why not call me on the telephone instead? Oh no, you can’t do that, you’re too lazy, ignorant and rude.

My rule is to ‘sell unto others as you would have sold unto you’. In other words, if you wouldn’t like ‘it’ done to you, don’t do ‘it’ to others. I’m always happy to take cold calls providing the sales person respects my time, has done research and can clearly articulate how their product or service can help me/my business. I’m also happy to receive cold emails on the same basis.

I will never tolerate generic spam and a scattergun approach. I could understand it for low value retail products but these same approaches and tactics are being used by salespeople working in professional (that’s a joke) business to business environments!

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will soon be replacing people in the work place. If all they are doing is sending out emails, that can be done by a robot. If they want a job in the future they need to be doing things that robots can’t, or find it hard to do, like listening and empathy.
